Conceived at a drag show in Brooklyn in August 2014, Acid Dad has quickly become one of the most talked-about bands in the New York scene. Over the past year, their string of infectious psych-punk singles has earned them nods from the likes of Nylon, The Deli, CMJ, Village Voice, Impose, Hero Mag and more, and has garnered them slots on Gigawatts Festival and Color Me Bushwick. Dingus once described them as “so fucking good,” and if you listen to their latest single, “Grim,” you’ll see why. Between dropping awesome tracks like that one, Acid Dad has made a name for themselves as one of the tightest and most energetic live bands in the Brooklyn scene. The band recently played 6 CMJ shows, including Austin Psych Fest's Levitation showcase at Rough Trade along with Drinks, Mild High Club and Shannon & the Clams. Look out for their debut EP in early 2016.Tickets & Show Info
BADBADNOTGOOD is a formally trained trio of young musicians made up of Matthew Tavares on keys, Chester Hansen on bass, and Alex Sowinski on drums. Since first meeting at music school in 2011, the three have challenged the rule book on improvised instrumental music and taken a fresh look at the jazz tradition by setting their sights on the future.
With early champions including acclaimed BBC broadcaster Gilles Peterson and Tyler The Creator, the band released their first EP BBNG in June 2011 to wide praise. The marriage of jazz virtuosity and hip hop source material offered a new take on the traditional "standard" applied to the hip hop songbook; writing inspired arrangements for golden era classics instead of one-dimensional covers.Tickets & Show Info
Roger Sellers is a lot of things. He's a minimalist composer with a knack for making hypnotic, enveloping songs from a few repeated musical phrases. He's a gifted musician who is mostly self-taught, having abandoned formal study because it was draining the life from his work. He's a self-described disciple of Phil Collins. What he is not, however -- despite multiple press reports to the contrary -- is a DJ.Tickets & Show Info

Big Thief’s music, rooted in the songs of Adrianne Lenker, paints in vivid tones “the process of harnessing pain, loss, and love, while simultaneously letting go, looking into your own eyes through someone else’s, and being okay with the inevitability of death.”
Masterpiece, Big Thief’s debut album (Saddle Creek), is filled with characters and visceral narratives, songs that pivot in the space of a few words. Adrianne’s voice and guitar playing speak of rich emotional territory with grace and insight. In her words, the record tracks “the masterpiece of existence, which is always folding into itself, people attempting to connect, to both shake themselves awake and to shake off the numbness of certain points in their life. The interpretations might be impressionistic or surrealistic, but they’re grounded in simple things.Tickets & Show Info
The duo of Jess Price and Mike Russell operate out of the eternally corrupt city of Chicago, where native Russell has been playing for over a decade. While his nationally-recognized acts Wedding Dress, Suns and Wax on Radio featured his presence on the mic, Campdogzz is fronted by Price, an Oklahoma emigrant with a voice that hits listeners like a dust storm. The pantheon of female singers with rootsy, radiant voices has been waiting for its next inductee, and with sharp melodic hooks bolstering Price's delivery, the spot is hers for the taking.Tickets & Show Info
After spending the greater part of 2015 in her adopted town of L.A., Caroline Smith is coming back home, with her full ensemble in tow, to tour her native mid-west. After writing for her new record over the fall, Smith is back on the road to promote her forthcoming EP, and to revisit the smoky arrangements and unabashedly honest lyricism of her 2013 release, “Half About Being a Woman.” Smith’s live show adds depth to her unique take on R & B pop and alternative neo-soul; Her full band of experienced players adds lush layers to her singles such as the feminist anthem, “Magazine”, and the heart-wrenching soul of “Child of Moving On”. As a performer, Caroline Smith leads with a compelling performance that will mesmerize anybody who watches, and she will deliver her most fully-realized and exciting set yet on her upcoming tour.Tickets & Show Info
Breakup albums mark a turning point for a band: the moment when their sound completely changes and reaches a new level of emotional clarity. All that heartbreak and malaise condensed into any single record often makes for a defining piece of work, no matter the genre. The best records explore the nooks and crannies of sadness, learning it inside and out — celebrating it.
Ceremony’s fifth studio album, The L-Shaped Man, uses singer Ross Farrar’s recent breakup as a platform to explore loneliness and emotional weariness, but it is by no means a purely sad album. Rather than look inward, Farrar uses his experience to write about what it means to go through something heavy and come out the other side a different person.Tickets & Show Info
The Canadian suburbs are dizzying and so is its latest. Chastity is a project out of Whitby Ontario by Brandon Williams and friends. Whitby has trailer parks and Whitby has luxury cars. Similar is the juxtaposition of the project both melodic and chaotic, an outfit of songs bred out of boredom worn by its middle class kids. In the short year and a half from releasing it's only existing songs online, a tape of 4 songs, Chastity has emerged into a youth culture for youth without one, having shared the stage with Chelsea Wolfe, Protomartyr, and White Lung.Tickets & Show Info

Dream Version are a Chicago indie pop band, influenced in equal parts by punk, surf, girl group, and dance music. They are Eric Brummitt (guitar), Alec Jensen (vocals, bass), and Michael Kunik (drums).
The gentlemen of Dream Version met as teachers at a Chicago elementary school. One way their day jobs have influenced their music is through their desire to make the complicated seem simple. Dream Version songs follow a labyrinthine path through choruses, bridges, and chord and tempo changes, but arrive in an agreeable, immediate, compact pop package. The listener’s first reaction might be a sugar high, but this band offers far more to sustain the appetite.Tickets & Show Info

Not named for the sweltering blacktop accompaniment, nor the waist-slinging hobby, but for hoop houses in the greenhouses where founding member Drew worked in high school. All told, Hoops began as Drew's solo ambient project. While their music takes influence from early industrial, no wave, noise, and punk music, they have devised a sound and style that is uniquely their own. Solar Phallic Lion is their third release and demonstrates an increasingly diverse palette, with HOGG expanding their style into 5 tracks that cover a range of genres. There are subdued vocals over a pulsating dirge of guitar and drum machine on the title track, a mutant surf blast of floor tom and riffs on "Electromagnetic Chauvinism," a rhythm-focused exorcism on "My House Is Nice", a D-beat re-imagining ripe with wild pitch-shifted vocals and soaring guitar on "Today's World," and a sing-along destruction of an old classic on "Conform or Die.”Tickets & Show Info
I have a way of loving too many things to take on just one shape,” Jilian Medford sings over and over again on the title track of the Brooklyn-based band IAN SWEET’s debut album, Shapeshifter, repeating it like a mantra. This is Medford’s thesis statement, a narrator to carry us through Shapeshifter, which is above all else a meditation on loneliness and displacement. It’s about losing love and your sense of self in the process, about grabbing at the little things in life that bring joy when nothing else is going according to plan. It’s also an ode to the bandmates, and the friends, that see you through.Tickets & Show Info

Negative Scanner eludes description. They’ve been compared to late 70s/early 80s post-punk, with the energy of Wipers, the gritty guitars of Wire, and the yelp of Public Image Ltd., but those descriptions don’t quite seem to capture them. Despite missing the mark, critics repeatedly attempt to make these comparisons in a struggle to pin down a band that can’t be pinned down. Negative Scanner have been active in Chicago’s vibrant DIY scene since 2012, earning well-deserved accolades as one of the city’s best live bands. Their debut album on Trouble in Mind Records plays with the tension between positive and negative, surging back and forth until something sparks.Tickets & Show Info

Inspired by the soulful classic sounds of Jackson Browne, Shuggie Otis, Sly and the Family Stone and The Band, as well as contemporary influences such as Cass McCombs, Broadcast, Cate Le Bon, and Chris Cohen, this is music meant for a close-up experience; spacious, dreamy, fun, and disarmingly open and honest.Tickets & Show Info
Chris Connelly and Matt Walker are both 30+ year veterans of the music business, Chris having moved from his native Scotland in the 80's to pursue a career in gratuitous volume and outrage with techno rednecks The Revolting Cocks and Ministry, Matt bringing his formidable drum skills to the likes of Filter, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage and Morrissey. Matt and Chris were working together on one of Matt's songs when the seed was sewn to start a band dedicated to the music of David Bowie, the pair always having had a strong connection and affinity with his career, his changing, challenging sound and his aesthetic. A stellar band was assembled, all veterans in their own right with excellent pedigrees, and almost immediately rehearsals were well underway with songs from Bowie's canon that were being selected, played and played with. Sons Of The Silent Age was a living, vital entity. It was decided to make the inaugural gig a benefit for a charity close to their hearts: Pablove, an organization that provides relief for pediatric cancer patients and their families. And so it came to be, on January 11th of 2013, Sons played their first show to a sold out crowd at Metro in ChicagoTickets & Show Info

It is not enough to say that The Hotelier have grown older, or wiser, or more of anything. We can trace a progression, if we like, from the explosive empowerment of It Never Goes Out to the ashen disillusionment of Home, Like Noplace Is There. We can follow an awakening of youth in suburbia attempting to learn what is right, and what is ours, and what is possible and impossible, and maybe we can't save each other like we thought we once could. We're awake and we're tired and we want love in our lives again. And so we find ourselves now in Goodness, in the woods outside of the suburbs, trying to re-learn that love.
But we seek a space outside time. Once in a while we can feel it, like a clearing. Where our histories and our rhetorics blend into languages spoken and unspoken. Where the greatest awe comes upon us for the overlooked, the simple, the incomperhensible. Where things glitch as they solidify, repeat as they evolve, scream as they whisper. Where always and forever above us, in all of its natural, unnatural, supernatural love, shines the moon. Goodness is not this place -- goodness is nowhere -- but we are following it to where we have to be.
After all we've gone through, how young are we? What is age softening in us, what is it hardening in us? Are we getting better? Worse? How could we ever know, when capital forces us onward away from ourselves? Will the woods consume the suburbs; will the suburbs consume the woods? In the gaps between these monumental questions, in the tiniest details, in the infinitude of cycles outside of time, there is Goodness. We begin there.

Title Fight is a band from Kingston, Pa, comprised of bassist/vocalist Ned Russin, guitarist/vocalist Jamie Rhoden, guitarist Shane Moran, and drummer Ben Russin. Hyperview is Title Fight’s third album and inaugural with Anti-.
In the summer of 2014, the band decamped to Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pa., where with producer/engineer Will Yip they had made their last three records to make Hyperview - the follow-up release to the band’s Spring Songs EP (Revelation Records, 2013). Hyperview is a massive leap forward from previous releases and is difficult to accomplish with words. The vocals are remarkably muted and lovely when compared to the blood-curdling caterwauling of earlier work. The lyrics are almost defiantly opaque. And when it comes to the music, this is an album that renders futile the exercise of conceiving bands as sums of influences, and of dutifully itemizing those influences. Hyperview can only be heard, and loved, as an artifact unto itself.
Simply put, Tortoise has spent nearly 25 years making music that defies description. While the Chicago-based instrumental quintet has nodded to dub, rock, jazz, electronica and minimalism throughout its revered and influential six-album discography, the resulting sounds have always been distinctly, even stubbornly, their own.Tickets & Show Info
New Wand aloft! So how to explain….Wand manufacture a little life within an elaborate craftwork of sound amongst the endless social contrivances of popular music – that almost says it? On their Drag City debut, 1000 Days, Wand move restlessly and gracefully through divergent phases of music in a single passage of a song. This is how they make their music. Recorded in their hometown of Los Angeles and San Francisco, 1000 Daysfinds Wand searching in corners and finding extra texture via synthetic animation. The atmosphere is quicksilver and the space acoustic; as a beacon sparks electric, a cascade of hi-fi noises for everyone’s ears – raucous, impassive, inevitable musical expressions.
